How to meditate

Everyone has heard that meditation is good for you, but many wonder how to meditate . Others have tried to meditate before, but they get too restless with traditional meditation. (How can you learn how to meditate if it presents so many hurdles that you feel like you can’t get started?). I’m all about leaning into the things that are uncomfortable–but I’m also a fan of making sure that you look, pragmatically, at how to create systems that bring you to what you want.

If you want to learn how to meditate, but you’re finding that it’s very difficult, ask yourself what systems might bring you closer to a regular practice (and anything you do with regularity becomes a habit!). For me? I call such a system learning how to “create stillness.”

Learn how to create stillness and learn how to meditate, even if it’s not the traditional form.

1. Learn how to introduce meditation into your life, even if you’ve never meditated before
2. Create a stillness practice when traditional meditation just doesn’t work for you
3. Understand why creating stillness is so important to bring more fun into your life

How to access the body

Meditation is a form of accessing the body. People might try to practice more courage in their lives by deciding that they’ll simply “stop fearful thoughts,” but this isn’t usually successful. Fear isn’t logical; it’s primal. We feel fear. It starts in the body, so we need to deal with it in the body. Learning how to meditate (or, if you prefer as I do, “create stillness”) gives you a powerful tool for accessing the body, which can slow down fear responses. When you slow down how you respond to feelings of fear through meditation and other tools to access the body, you can create more courage in your life.
