The truth about being smart? I had to learn a few things, to release my attachment to the identity of “Smart Person” and all the behaviors that went along with it.

This is the real courage of leadership: leadership is about inspiration, not domination.

When others criticize, you have options—like totally avoiding the person, or lashing out and telling them how wrong they are, or just nodding your head and agreeing to whatever they want you to do. But I prefer another option, which is practicing courage when others criticize and allowing yourself to have a process of evaluation with the feedback that you hear.

We’re stronger and more powerful when we redefine security as being secure in ourselves.

Secure in being the wellspring of our own happiness.
Secure in our capacity to make, and recover from, mistakes.
